Graduate Exams (GRE/GMAT):

The Defense Department (DoD) sunset the College Readiness Exams Reimbursement Program due to Defense budget reductions; the cost of maintaining system functionality and sustainment of the program was not feasible within DANTES’ budget resources. DANTES no longer offers these exams or funds/reimburses exam fees for service members. Service members can access GRE exam information directly through the GRE website; and for GMAT exam information, please use the GMAT website.

Why is the College and Career Readiness Exams Reimbursement program going away?

DANTES is sunsetting the College and Career Readiness Exams Reimbursement program as of October 1, 2021. The program is being sunset due to DANTES budget reductions and the cost of maintaining system functionality and sustainment of the program is not feasible within DANTES’ budget resources.

Is DANTES still going to offer College and Career Readiness exams to service members?

Service members can access the following exams directly through the vendor websites: GED, ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT and Praxis exams. DANTES will no longer offer these exams or reimburse exam fees for service members after June 30,2021.

Can I still take the ACT, SAT, GRE or GMAT for military advancement or enlisted-to-officer programs?

Yes. Access to off-base commercial, nationally and internationally located test centers is available. Check with the testing agency for more information. The service member is responsible for registration, scheduling and funding the exams, and sending official score results to the appropriate program or education office.

Can I still be reimbursed for these exams?
No, DANTES no longer reimburses for these exams. Questions regarding reimbursement applications should be sent via email to: DANTES_reimbursements@navy.mil or DANTES_PLA@navy.mil.
I have a request for exam reimbursement pending. Will I still be paid?

Yes. Requests received by the June 30, 2021 deadline will be processed; only those containing adequate proof of payment receipt and score report will be approved in accordance with (IAW) Finance Management Office (FMO) regulations.

Payments are electronically deposited in your Defense Finance Accounting System (DFAS) account or via US Treasury check, and will not be reflected on your Leave Earning Statement (LES). Due to the program sunset, we cannot guarantee issuance of payment by DFAS within the estimated 6-week window. All inquiries about your status of payment, should be sent via email to: DANTES_reimbursements@navy.mil or DANTES_PLA@navy.mil; we will refer correspondence to the FMO on your behalf.

I have a request for exam reimbursement pending. How do I check on the status?

To inquire about the status of your request and/or payment for Fiscal Years 2020 and 2021, please email DANTES_reimbursements@navy.mil or DANTES_PLA@navy.mil

DANTES will refer your correspondence to the Finance Management Office (FMO) on your behalf when appropriate. Please do not send PII.

I will be taking the ACT or SAT exam for Seaman to Admiral (STA-21) purposes. Will this affect me when it comes to getting my results?

No. Prior to registering to take an exam, contact the individual Program Office to obtain the appropriate four-digit institution or program code, better known as “school” code(s). In order to have official results sent free of charge and directly to the colleges or programs of choice, be sure to choose the college or program school code at the time of registration for the select exam.

Can I still get an official score report after completing my exam?

Yes, but the testing agencies will require a fee for this service. In order to request an official score report be sent to a college or program after having completed the test session, log into the student account you created at the time of registering for the select exam.
